TRACK IN

The ice melters featured on IceMeltNow.com are used nationally, and will not cause track in issues when used as directed.  Most ice melt manufacturers also state the same. Yet, we have seen track in by ice melt use.  Here are some helpful use suggestions:

Ice Melt Use Guidelines (to help avoid Track IN)

  · Is your Ice Melter Sticky?

Calcium Chloride becomes sticky and when used straight can track in easier than sodium chloride based ice melters.

Þ Use a sodium chloride based ice melter.

  ·  Effectiveness of the Ice Melter

If your product melts ice slowly, then over application may occur in order to make the surface safe.

Þ Use an ice melter that melts ice quickly, even in colder temperatures.  Contact us for more information.

  · Method of Ice Melt Application (do not over apply)

If plenty of ice melter remains after the ice has melted, this is over application, which leads to scaling.

Þ Follow the use directions on the bag.  If your ice melter doesn't work well, find a  product that will!

If you apply ice melter by hand out of a bucket, this can lead to local piles and local scaling.

Þ Use a spreader to ensure uniform application.

If your ice melter is white or clear, it may be hard to see if you are applying it properly.

Þ Use an ice melter with a coverage indicator to help prevent over use.

  · Does Coverage Indicator Track In?

The Coverage Indicators on the ice melters featured on IceMeltNow.com do not track in.

Þ Coverage Indicator has been in Ossian Inc. and used successfully for over 15 years!

Þ For almost no track in of anything, use  Liquid Triple Melt in front of your entry ways!

  ·  The type of Winter that occurs

If the winter is harsh, more ice melt is used.  Seasonal ice melt use can vary by 300% or more.
The type of winter, and the amount of ice melt required can also encourage track in.

Þ Choose a good ice melter and apply it properly.
